Communitarian identity

As social beings, or as interconnected beings, community does play a major role in our lives. They shape our identity. They make us different from those outside the community.

Two major themes spoken today regarding communities are globalization and protection of local identities. They belong to both sides of the spectrum; a terminology used combining the two aspects is Glocal. (Adapting international products or standards in local conditions). It is like the struggle between roots and wings; many would say you need both.

What should be the criteria for deciding about local or global standards to be used? Whether my community identity (local) should be preferred or human identity (global)? ( Inspiration from the book of Amartya Sen, identity and violence)
